Two complete issues of this important nineteenth century botanical magazine. Included in this lot are No. XXXIII with 3 plates (1 double-page), and No. LXI with 4 plates. The seven plates feature several beautiful exotic specimens. Published in 16 volumes from 1834-1849 by Sir Joseph Paxton, the Magazine of Botany is a predecessor to today's horticultural magazines. The magazine contained descriptions of flowering plants, as well as advice for the gardener. It is highly prized for the brilliant colors of the plates and the beauty of the plants illustrated. Each print is hand colored, and treated with an egg white wash to preserve the color.
