A fine and decorative map of the Americas. North America is based on the Sanson-Jaillot model with California as an island. Buttons Bay and the Great Lakes are both left open-end in the west, leaving open the possibility of a Northwest Passage. An unusual feature of the map is the pair of large cartouches, one for each continent, each surrounded by figures including natives, animals, explorers, and a river god.

References: McLaughlin #120; Tooley (Amer) p. 125 #56.

Condition: B

Professionally backed with light Japanese tissue to stabilize oxidation of the original color with a tiny bit of unobtrusive loss, and repair a of short fold separation. Bit of light foxing.

Estimate: $2,100 - $2,300
