Magnificent illuminated manuscript vellum leaf, probably late 19th century, when there was a renewed interest in the Middle Ages. The leaf is beautifully painted in the 15th-century style and very skillfully executed. It depicts four scenes from the Life of the Virgin in round paintings on a checkered background of blue and gold leaf. The gilt areas are incised in delicate geometric patterns. The scenes are: the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity and the Flight to Egypt. Below the picture is a text with finely illuminated initials and around it, on three sides, are flowers and leaves in red, blue, pink and gold leaf. The text is from Psalm 6, one of the Penitential Psalms. Only the recto is decorated.
