This issue of Night Life magazine focuses on events on New Year's Eve in Manhattan. The frontispiece of the magazine is a full-page map of Manhattan by Frank Bernard Dolph, which is filled with illustrations of the people and sights to be found in the city around midnight. Showgirls, policemen, couples dancing, corner musicians, alley cats, taxis, and merchants fill the streets of the city, with key locations marked with red banners. The Hudson and East Rivers are painted red, giving the map a dark, clandestine feel. This is is a reduced-sized edition of Dolph's map, which was first published in 1938 and issued as a multi-colored tourist map. The magazine includes illustrations, photographs, and articles related to the night life in Manhattan, as well as a directory of night clubs and hotels in the city.

Frank Bernard Dolph (1897-1975) was an American map publisher who founded several publishing companies, including Dolph and Stewart and the Dolph Map Co. He is best known for the plans he created of cities across the United States, and in particular those of Florida cities. Although born in New York, Dolph moved to Florida in the 1940's, where he created maps for many Chambers of Commerce around the state.

Condition: A

The condition code is for the map, which has bold color and a faint dampstain in the right margin. The magazine has a dampstain along the gutter and another along the top edge that only affects the back half of the magazine. The back cover has heavy soiling.
