This pictorial map showcasing the achievements of American athletes was published as a promotional item from Gunther Brewing Co. The artwork blends realistic portraiture with irreverent cartooning, noting record-breakers from various sports across the United States. Babe Ruth ("Wotta man!"), the golfers Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen, and tennis champion Helen Willis are among those depicted in dignified portraits. Other athletes' triumphs are captured in visual puns: Ty Cobb is shown fleeing a police officer after literally stealing a base; the 87-yard pass of Robinson at St. Louis University flies from Earth to a receiver on the moon; and the proud stud Broomstick celebrates his offspring's 1,800 horse race victories with a cigar. A glass of Gunther's lager appears in the title cartouche, and an ad in the right margin encourages folks to listen to Gunther's Daily Sports Review, hosted by Paul Menton. The Baltimore-based Gunther Brewing Co. was founded in 1881 and was one of the top brewers in the city until it was purchased by Hamm's Brewing Company in 1960.
