This matching trio of maps focus on the fortress of Schenkenschanz built at the confluence of the Waal and Rhine Rivers on the border between the Netherlands and Germany. The fortress was captured by Spanish forces in 1635 and then surrendered to Dutch forces in 1636. Published in Blaeu's town atlas of the Netherlands. It is very rare to find all three of these sheets together.

A. De Ghelegentheyt ende Belegheringhe van Schencken-Schans Curyeus Gemeeten ende Geteeckent by den Ervaren Ingenieur Ioannes Iacobi Schort Anno 1635 en 36, (22.5 x 18.6"). This map shows the region surrounding the fortress, with north oriented to the bottom of the sheet. There is incredible minute detail of people and horses in battle. This is the second state with the imprint of "I.B." replacing that of "C.J. Visscher."

B. Schencken-Schans [on sheet with] Het Tolhuis [and] 'T Huis te Hal [and] Griethuisen [and] Christina ost Nieu Schenckenschans..., (20.3 x 16.8"). This sheet includes panoramic views of Fort Schenkenschanz, Tolhuis, Griethausen, Huis te Halt, and the "new" fortress Schenkenschanz further down river on the Waal.

C. Schenckenschans, (20.9 x 16.5"). A simple bird's-eye plan of the fortifications of Schenkenschanz.
