"Le Vieux Carre de la Nouvelle Orleans",

This charming pictorial map of New Orleans' historic French Quarter was drawn by Myra Zimmerman Barnes. It fills the grid of the city streets with small illustrations related to the city's history, culture, and architecture. The corners of the Quarter are marked by notable historic forts. In the Mississippi, there is a Spanish galley, a flatboat, a steamboat, and a modern ship. The map's elaborate border consists of cast iron decorations and 31 vignettes, including the Southern Yacht Club, the Sugar Bowl at Tulane Stadium, a figure harvesting cane sugar, Saint Louis Cemetery No. 2, fires set during the yellow fever plague of 1866-67, a Mardi Gras parade float, Rex, the Lord of Misrule, Spanish moss, and more. The old-fashioned strapwork title cartouche incorporates the magnolia blossom, the state flower. The data for this map is attributed to Stanley Clisby Arthur's Old New Orleans.
