This USGS map covers Arkansas, Louisiana, eastern Texas and eastern Oklahoma. It presents the nascent petroleum industry with a color-coded legend identifying 10 pipelines and pump stations, as well as 4 refineries. The FTC was established in 1914 and its initial focus was on anticompetitive practices in the oil industry. This map is from its initial report which found that the cost of building pipelines was prohibitive for smaller operators who also were also being disadvantaged by refiners’ minimum shipment requirements. Pipelines, however, were a less costly means of transport than railroads. We found no past sales records for this map and only 3 institutional examples on OCLC.
