This detailed mining map was drawn by John Paul Dart, Mining Engineer, and separately issued by Bancroft & Company in nearby San Francisco. It covers the southwestern portion of Tuolumne County, extending from the towns of Confidence and Columbia south to Groveland and Golden City. The map is divided into townships and shows scores of gravel and quartz mine claims, particularly in the region around Jamestown and Summersville. A few of the claims include Scorpion, Stanislaus, Montezuma, Philadelphia, Lime Kiln, Indiana, and many more. Other interesting details provide evidence of a mining boom including saw mills, ditches, roads, a brewery, marble cave, and "Chinese Camp." The map is completed by decorative elements including various trees found in the area and a compass rose - unusual features for this type of map.
