This scarce railroad map was prepared to accompany a report by the U.S. Quartermaster General. Heavy black lines represent bond-aided railroads; red lines are fifty percent land grant railroads; and green lines are free land grant railroads. Red flags denote military posts. Alcatraz Island and the Presidio are both included in a list of military posts near San Francisco.
