Written by Rear Admiral Charles H. Davis, Supt. of the Naval Observatory. 8vo, 28 pp, complete with 13 maps. First map is "General Map of the American Isthmuses showing the various lines proposed for Inter-oceanic Communications." It locates with hand colored outline the numerous proposed canal locations, including a very long one from Teluantepec to the Gulf of Campeche. Remaining maps are detailed routes and profiles of each proposal. A historical and interesting early step toward building the Panama Canal.
