First map is "General Map of the American Isthmuses showing the various lines proposed for Inter-oceanic Communications." It locates with hand colored outline the numerous proposed canal locations, including a very long one from Teluantepec to the Gulf of Campeche. Remaining maps are detailed routes and profiles of each proposal. A historical and interesting early step toward building the Panama Canal.
