Very early examples of cartoon art. Each sheet consists of a series of scenes with text below each panel, which tells a moral story. They were originally developed in France by the Imagerie d'Epinal and published in America by the Humoristic Publishing Co., possibly for distribution at Sunday schools. They provide a fascinating view of mid-19th century moral views. Lot contains: The Price of a Lie; The Sailor-boy's Dream; The Flying Trunk; Jack Simpleton; The Land of Cocagne. Printed on early newsprint, but unblemished with bright colors printed on one side only.
