A great little American Revolutionary era map depicting England's greatest successes during the campaign of 1776, the battles of Long Island and White Plains. The map is filled with details of the campaign. Various places on the map are imprinted with such captions as: "Gen. Howe Landed Aug. 22", "Provincials defeated Aug. 27", "Retreat of the Rebels", and "Provincials drowned here" (near the Red Hook area of Brooklyn). During the final days of August, General Howe inflicted a crushing defeat on Washington's army forcing the small American army to retreat from the city. Bound into the 1776 Supplement to Gentleman's Magazine including article about the battles.
