Crisply engraved map of the continent. Wells, a professor of geography at Oxford, dedicated his atlas to his student William, Duke of Gloucester. This map depicts the continent with two different sources of the Nile. It shows the classic source in the twin lakes of Zaire and Zaflan, along with a northern source labeled "Niles head according to Ludolfus". Monomotapa's Kingdom is in central South Africa. Large, (uncolored) cartouche with the coat of arms of the Duke of Gloucester.
