Great, detailed map of the region between Pennsylvania and northern Florida. It was originally produced by the French Admiralty in 1778 for use by the French Navy during the Revolutionary War. Thus is provides excellent coastal detail and soundings, particularly in the Chesapeake Bay. Surprisingly it also provides great detail inland to the Appalachians and extends west to Fort Necessity and the Ohio River in Western Virginia. The map shows early county names throughout the region, as well as early roads, Indian tribes, towns, mountains and rivers. This is the third state of the map, re-engraved by Giovanni Brun from an Italian publication.

Two sheets, joined as issued. Apparently trimmed into border for binding and professionally remargined with border supplied in expert facsimile. Couple of small tears (just entering map) also expertly repaired.
