This is a strong engraving of the third state of this famous Revolutionary War period map with the addition of Billingsfort Island. The original Scull and Heap survey of 1752 was outdated at the outbreak of hostilities, thereby prompting Faden to update the map with regard to defenses along the strategic Delaware River. The map includes a plan of the city, soundings in the rivers and a table of the distances to various places in the vicinity. At the bottom is a large elevation of the State House (Independence Hall). Segmented on 18th century linen and folding to pocket map (8 x 6") with original vellum tab labeled in brown manuscript ink.

References: Nebenzahl, #26.

Condition: B

Very crisp and clean, overall fine except that the side margins were trimmed into neat line when it was mounted on linen.

Estimate: $4,000 - $4,500
