This is a superb celestial chart depicting the Tycho Brahe model of the Solar System, surrounded with the signs of the Zodiac. Across the chart, Apollo, and his entourage, drives his sun chariot through the sky. Portraits of Tycho Brahe and Riccioli in the upper portion of the chart with diagrams of their planetary systems delineated in each corner. The map is further embellished with banks of clouds containing putti using scientific instruments. Johann Gabriel Doppelmayr was a professor of mathematics at the Aegidien Gymnasium in Nuremberg. He collaborated with Homann on most of Homann's celestial maps.
