A very rare vellum leaf from a Book of Hours made in Flanders. The distinctive border decorations of acanthus leaves, flowers and fruit are in the semi-grisaille style, with gray, black and gold. Grisaille first appeared in the 13th century but was especially popular around 1400. The prayers are from the Office of Our Blessed Lady - Matins. The recto includes finely written text, in black and red, with a very elaborate initial "D" and four smaller decorative initials. The Latin text contains, in part, the prayer "Lord, thou shalt open my lips. And my mouth shall sing thy praise. God, come to my assistance. Lord, hasten to help me". The verso contains Psalm 94, with two decorative initials.
