A fine large map of the continent with Sanson's characteristic attention to detail. The relatively unknown Amazon region is left without speculation. However, Sanson includes the mythical "Lac de Parime" with "Manoa del Dora" (city of gold) on its western shore. There is considerable detail of towns and cities. Strapwork title cartouche. Trimmed to just outside neatline and mounted on a larger sheet of fine 17th or early 18th century paper for binding into a composite atlas (a common practice at the time).
