The large version of this important Western map. It covers all of the western territories from the 105th Meridian. This map is a synthesis of information from a number of western explorers. It is considered one of the most important 19th century American maps. It shows for the first time the Mormon settlements in Utah, names for the first time the Golden Gate, and is an important map of the new gold regions of California. Ref: Wheat (TMW) 559, Goos (NA) #177, and Schwartz & Ehrenberg pl. #171. This example has some damage along the folds, which have been repaired with archival tape with some paper taped to back to fill in some loss along folds. The most significant loss is an area just north of Long's Peak with 1" x 1/2" missing. Otherwise clean and crisp.
