A detailed German map presenting evolving boundaries in the Southwest. Although the coloring is similar to later editions published ca. 1850, this earlier and scarcer edition of the map features the Republic of Texas in its smaller configuration with its western border along the Nueces River. The depiction of the Great Basin is pre-Fremont with a pair of speculative rivers flowing from Lake Teguayo to the Pacific Ocean. Numerous Indian tribes are named and located west of the Rocky Mountains including the Ute, Navajo and Apache Indians. The map extends to include all of Central America with a color-coded key at bottom.
