A. N. America, by Samuel John Neele, circa 1800 (9.3 x 7.8"). This small, handsome map of the continent shows the United States east of the Mississippi with a large Louisiana Territory to its west. The coast of present-day California is labeled New Albion, with Sir Francis Drake's Har. 1578 identified. The area around present-day Oregon is labeled Quivira. A "supposed" River of the West spans from Sioux county to the Admiralty Inlet. The Missouri River is "navigable 1300 miles." Florida is divided into East and West Florida. Alaska is named, and McKenzie and Hearne's Arctic explorations are noted. The cartography here is very similar to Robert Wilkinson's A New Map of North America, Agreeable to the Latest Discoveries (1794). Condition: There are a few minor spots and a small wormhole in the bottom blank margin.

B. Amerique Septentrionale, by F.D. Aynes, from Methode Abregee et Facile pour Apprendre la Geographie, dated 1813 (7.0 x 5.8"). This small, uncommon French map of North America depicts the sources of the Mississippi in a sprawling western river network that nearly connects with the Columbia River. Louisiana Territory is named west of the Mississippi. The place names Ne. California, Ne. Albion, Ne Georgia, Ne Hanover, N. Cornwall, and N. Norfolk span the west coast into Canada. Alaska is Amerique Russe. Engraved by E. Collin. Condition: Issued folding on watermarked paper with a few small spots and wormhole along the left sheet edge.
