This "newsmap" was issued on Monday, June 14, 1943, and covers the news from June 3-10, 1943 - the 196th week of the war. This large sheet, measuring nearly 4 feet by 3 feet, includes two inset maps of the war situation around the world and in eastern Europe. The world map is color-coded to identify countries that are part of the United Nations, Axis and Axis occupied, those with broken relations with the Axis, and neutral. Six important events are also noted on the map: Churchill announces invasion soon; greatest battle may come on Russian front, Italy's southern island bombarded by air and sea; Chinese troops clearing enemy from rice area; Jap planes attack Russell Islands; and swift revolt changes Argentine government.

From 1942-46, the U.S. Army published "newsmaps" to keep American troops updated on the war. These weekly posters were distributed and posted in every American installation in the world and were intentionally more visual than descriptive to help engage and motivate personnel.
