This oversized pictorial map was published by Philips Radio to advertise their shortwave radio sets, and identifies the locations of over 70 shortwave radio stations around the world. The stations are marked by numbered red circles that correspond with an alphabetical directory in a row of cartouches at bottom, which give the call sign and frequency of each station. The remainder of the map is filled with charming images of the people, animals, plants and man-made structures that can be found on each continent. Northern Asia, which apparently at the time did not offer any shortwave radio stations, is covered by an inset with an outline map of the world showing global time zones. Created by Walter Eckhard, whose signature appears just below the compass rose at bottom left.
