"A New Map of the Only Useful and Frequented Part of New Found Land [and] The Lyon Entranced [bound in] The Gentleman's and London Magazine. For October, 1762", Kitchin, Thomas

Most of the detail on this uncommon chart of Newfoundland is concentrated along the coast. The map depicts the southern 90% of the island up to Cape Rich. It locates Widows Bank, the Great Fishing Bank, Madelaine Isles (Magdalen Islands), and much more. Interior areas "are entirely unknown." A portrait-style title cartouche and simple compass rose adorn the map. This edition of the map is not listed in Jolly, but the map does appear in the August 1762 edition of London Magazine.

The map is still bound into the October 1762 issue of The Gentleman's and London Magazine, which features a frontispiece engraving by William Hogarth entitled The Lyon Entranced (10.3 x 5.4"). This satirical scene depicts the last private meeting between British leaders before the signing of the preliminary articles of peace, ending the French & Indian War on November 3, 1762.
