This finely engraved copperplate map of the Roman Empire. It includes Europe, Northern Africa, and the Near and Middle East. The map is embellished with ships and sea monsters in the Atlantic and a fine title cartouche featuring allegorical figures, ships, and a figurehead. Engraved by Melchior Tavernier. This edition is dated 1637 but was published in 1667 by Pierre Mariette with the address of Rue St. Iacques a l'Esperance.

Condition: A

A sharp impression with contemporary outline color and later color in the cartouche, on a bright sheet with a large coat of arms watermark. There are a few extraneous creases adjacent to the centerfold and minor marginal soiling.
