A. New Worlds - Maps from the Age of Discovery, published 2006. This handsome reference by Ashley and Miles Baynton-Williams takes readers through the Age of Discovery in 120 maps, beginning in 1475 with Lucas Brandis de Schass' untitled circular map of the world and concluding in 1899 with Fred W. Rose's "serio-comic" map of Europe. The selection of maps here is consistently surprising and illuminating, with an emphasis on cartographic myths and ornate decoration. 224 pp. Hardbound with illustrated covers and dust jacket. Published by Quercus.

B. Maps of War, published 2007. Ashley and Miles Baynton-Williams followed their sumptuous New Worlds - Maps from the Age of Discovery with this magnificent reference on battlefield maps. The book features 130 maps, spanning from the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh in 1547 to the Second Boer War at the end of the 19th century. It is a must for anybody interested in the overlap between military and cartographic history. 223 pp. Hardbound with illustrated covers and dust jacket. Published by Quercus.
