This striking view of Nombre de Dios shows a variety of ships with the large galleon in the foreground firing its cannon. Nombre de Dios was located east of Portobelo along the northern coast of Panama, and was established to protect the Spanish Silver fleet. The view is surrounded by a frame-style border. This engraving was published in Carel Allard's Orbis Habitabilis Oppida et Vestitus, the first town book to incorporate both maps and costume plates of cities from all over the world, including New York, Paris, Rome, Mexico, Jerusalem, Bantam, and many more.
