Based on the geography of Delisle, this striking map shows the ancient kingdom of Assyria. It stretches from Greece to the Indus River. There is strong topographical detail and numerous ancient place names. The portion of the Arabian Peninsula depicted here is largely unengraved with the exception of some mountains. Engraved by Delahaye. The map is attached to four pages of text excerpted from the fifth volume of Histoire de l'Academie Royale des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres... (published in 1729), with passages from an essay by Charles de Valois titled "Suite de la Dissertation sur les Amphictyons."
