This lovely sepia tone printed pictorial map is dense with small illustrations of sites of interest in Europe. Cities are represented by buildings and monuments of note: Westminster Abbey and Big Ben for London; Sacre Coeur, the Eiffel Tower, and the Gardens of Versailles for Paris; the Leaning Tower of Pisa for Pisa; the Parthenon for Athens; and much more. Taken together, the illustrations demonstrate the beauty and range of architecture on the continent. Additional views surround the map, including St. Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London, a bear at the northern lights, St. Basil's Cathedral, the Kremlin, the Blue Mosque, the Reichstag, and Mozart's birthplace in Salzburg. Vessels from various eras fill the waters, and images of wildlife appear in the areas between the cities. A decorative title cartouche at top left and compass rose at bottom right complete the composition. Designed and drawn by Ernest Dudley Chase, who was a leader in pictorial map-making during the middle 20th century.
