An attractive double-hemisphere map showing the world in rudimentary form. Instead of geography, the map emphasizes the position of the sun and the various types of people across the globe. For example, Heterosciens are people who live outside of the tropics while Perisciens live in the two polar regions. Antipodes are also identified in the eastern hemisphere. Flanked by columns of French text describing the map. Surrounded by a decorative border frame entwined with garlands of leaves and flowers, surveyor and draftsman tools (e.g. triangles, compasses, rulers, telescopes, a map and globe), and a mythological figurehead crowned with leaves at top center. Buy de Mornas was the Royal Geographer to the King in Paris and a respected historian with an interest in scientific matters pertaining to the earth and the planets. Published by Desnos.
