This large, bold map takes in all of the Balkan Peninsula, the southern parts of the Ukraine and Russia, all of the Black Sea, and Asia Minor. It is filled with detail including the addition of the newly completed railways. Five distance scales appear in the lower left corner of the map. The title cartouche provides a stark contrast between the cherubic figures at its foot and the implements of war at top. James Wyld, successor to William Faden, maintained the high standard of graphic and factual excellence that had been established by his predecessor; his maps are among the finest published in the early nineteenth century. This is a later state, published by Wyld the Younger.
