This is a large-scale reproduction of a manuscript map of the center of the city of Honolulu. It appeared in the controversial 1894 Morgan Report, which concluded the United States Congressional investigation into the overthrow of Queen Liliʻuokalani and the Hawaiian Kingdom in 1893. Its name came from Senator John Morgan of Alabama, who was chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and led the investigation. Drawn by F.S. Dodge under the direction of William J. Alexander, the map shows the grid pattern of the city with areas shaded in pink representing land owned by Americans. A key at bottom identifies the U.S. Consulate, U.S. Legation, and the residence of J.B. Atherton, where U.S. military troops first met.
