"Map of the History and Romance of Wyoming",

This pictorial map of Wyoming was created by Grace Raymond Hebard, a historian, long-time professor at the University of Wyoming, and active feminist. The map combines historical facts with key landmarks and local culture. Some of the sights noted are the Oregon Trail, the Overland Trail, Yellowstone National Park, Jackson Hole, Grand Teton, and Washakie’s Buffalo Hunting Grounds. Hebard also commemorates important moments in women's history, including the first crossing of the Rockies by a white woman, the home of Sacajawea, the first woman jury, and Nellie Davis Tayloe Ross, the 14th Governor of Wyoming from 1925 to 1927. Other images help to commemorate the state, such as the state seal, the state flag, and the state flower (Indian Paintbrush). Paul M. Paine is also listed as a co-creator for the map. Originally copyrighted in 1928, this example was published in 1936.

Printed on light tan paper with an "Economic Ledger" watermark, with minor soiling in the wide margins. The hand coloring is very likely original, possibly by Hebard. There are a few soft creases at top left.
