This is a fabulous large chart of the Lesser Antilles and the northeastern coast of South America. It focuses on the route between the French colonies of Cayenne (Guiana) and Martinique. The map extends from the Virgin Islands to the coast of South America and includes a detailed inset map of the entrance to Cayenne harbor with its important fort and sugar plantations. Obscuring the interior region is an elaborate, rococo cartouche. This is an early edition without the Depot de la Marine seal that later appeared at bottom right.

Condition: B+

A sturdy, watermarked sheet with minor foxing and soiling and a couple of faint damp stains confined to the bottom blank margin. A previous owner added a stamp of a face with a sun at top left. There is a faint bluish shadow along the centerfold that is caused by our scanner and does not appear on the map itself.
