This intriguing map, with very wide margins, has never been folded and appears to be a later edition of the engraved plan that accompanied David Ramsay's The History of South Carolina published in 1809. The plan, with north oriented to the right, shows the early fortified town at the confluence of the Cooper and Ashley rivers with a legend at bottom identifying 36 important sites mostly inside the city. A number of farms and residences are also identified outside the fortified walls. The lack of fold lines suggest that this might be a proof copy for the 1858 reprint of Ramsay's book or for the 1876 Centennial printing, but we could not confirm its exact origins. The full sheet measures 19x15".
