This rare map was issued on the verso of a promotional brochure for the city of Los Angeles shortly after the turn of the 20th century. It shows the street grid of the city proper and identifies several parks and cemeteries. Below the map is a description of the "Shoe String Strip," which was a 16 miles stretch of coastline just north of San Pedro that the city had recently annexed. The map is surrounded by descriptive text, a small inset map of the broader region, and a street index. The recto of the sheet is filled with a wide range of advertisements, including a featured ad soliciting investment for the proposed "Seal Gardens" resort along the coast. Folds into octavo stiff paper boards. No auction or dealer listings in the last 30 years. No copies located in OCLC.
