This very uncommon map was drawn by Zurner and published by Pieter Schenk. Cartographically, it is an updated version of Schenk's earlier map, which in turn was based on Visscher. The map contains the customary 17th century interior cartography with an exaggerated outline with deeply scalloped bays. The Nile arises from Lakes Zaire and Zaflan in the Ptolemaic manner and the Congo also originates in Lake Zaire. The impressive cartouche is entirely original and features an African queen riding a massive elephant, a fat-tailed sheep, a snarling lion, a snake, and a huge crocodile. In the background are two pyramids and in the middle distance a group of natives, one milking a cow.
