This is a facsimile of the 1528 edition of Venetian illuminator and wood-engraver Bordone's isolario (which translates as "book of islands"), the first atlas covering the entire world based on contemporary information rather than classical geography. The 111 simple and striking maps scattered through the text depict islands throughout the world, with a particular emphasis on islands in the Mediterranean Sea. The book includes an interesting introduction by R.A. Skelton. 166 pp. Hardbound in green cloth with gilt insignia on the front cover and a dust jacket.
