This lot of 3 striking maps focuses on the Strait of Magellan.

A. Carte Reduite du Detroit de Magellan Dressee sur les Journaux des Navigateurs, by Jacques Nicolas Bellin, from Raynal's Atlas Portatif, dated 1753, (13.6 x 7.5"). Uncommon detailed chart of the Strait of Magellan locating harbors, islands, capes and bays from Cap des Vierges to Cap de la Victoire. It includes a lettered reference table for anchorages, bays, and harbors in the vicinity of Isle de Louis le Grand at the mid-point of the strait. Condition: Issued folding on a watermarked sheet with minor offsetting and a printer's crease at top left. (A)

B. Detroit de Magellan, avec les Plans des Principaux Ports, Bayes &c. de ce Detroit, by Rigobert Bonne, from Atlas Encyclopedique, circa 1787, (13.5 x 9.1"). This is a very detailed chart of the Straits of Magellan that displays the best route through the straits. There are sixteen small inset maps of the area showing anchorages and navigational hazards. The chart is centered on a large compass rose and fleur-de-lis. Engraved by Andre. Condition: On a watermarked sheet with light toning, faint offsetting, and a few spots. (B+)

C. Extremite Meridionale de l'Amerique, by Rigobert Bonne, from Atlas Encyclopedique, circa 1787, (13.8 x 9.2"). This copper-engraved sheet of Tierra del Fuego is centered on a large compass rose. The map details the treacherous track through the Straits of Magellan. Five insets show bays, small groups of islands, soundings, rocks, and anchorages. Engraved by Andre. Condition: On a watermarked sheet with minor toning along the centerfold, a hint of offsetting, and a spot of faint soiling that just enters the neatline at top. (A)
