This is the second volume of the Senate Executive Documents for the 52nd Congress, 2nd Session, containing reports #20-68. Of particular interest is report #68, pertaining to the situation at the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona and New Mexico. This 50-page report features 17 folding maps including a very large, untitled map of the entire reservation (49.5 x 33.7"). Among the many details in the map are the location of irrigation ditches, springs, wells, creeks, rivers, canyons, valleys, mountains, mesas, villages, lakes and passes. There is terrific topographical detail with contour intervals at 1000 feet. The map locates and names Monument Valley, the Hopi Mesas with Walpi, Oraibi, Keams Canyon, Canyon de Chelly, Canyon del Muerto, Pyramid Rock, Fort Wingate, Fort Defiance, the Crossing of the Fathers, and much more. It also depicts the routes of exploration of Lieutenants Brown, Suplee and Gurovits during their water supply investigations in 1892.

In addition to the maps of the Navajo Reservation, this Senate volume also includes Wheeler's Topographical Map of the Yosemite Valley and Vicinity, which details the early development of the Yosemite valley after being designated a state park in 1864. Thick octavo, hardbound in full leather with gilt title labels on spine.

Condition: B+

The folding maps are all near fine to fine, with the exception of the very large map of the Navajo Indian Reservation that has a 9" fold separation at left (very common for large maps still bound). Text is very good with pleasant light toning. The front hinge is starting, the covers have light wear, and there is a small chip in one of the spine labels.
