This plan shows the route of a canal connecting Coventry to Fradley Heath - a distance of over 36 miles. At the time of publication, the canal had been completed to Atherstone - a distance of over 14 miles in about 3 years. Towns along the canal route include Nun Eaton, Atherstone, Polesworth, and Tamsworth. This canal was one of many constructed as part of Britain's national canal system, whose creation was spurred by the Industrial Revolution. One industry that would have benefited from this specific route is coal, with several coal mines and coal works identified along the path. Issued in the June 1771 edition of Gentleman's Magazine.
