"[Lot of 78 - U.S.D.A. Soil Maps]", U.S.D.A.

Housed in a brown cloth case with original string ties and gilt tilting, this complete set contains 78 large folding maps from the 5th Report of the Field Operations of the Bureau of Soils, under the direction of Milton Whitney. Each of the maps has a legend identifying the various soil profiles which are overlaid on base maps provided by the Geological Survey. In addition to the soil types, the maps depict roads, railroads, cities and towns, county boundaries and topography via contour lines. Of particular interest are two maps featuring Los Angeles (#77 & #78), one of San Jose (#72), and several of Louisiana including New Orleans (#21). The full list of maps include:

Condition: B+

The maps are very good to near fine with attractive, bright coloring. There is pleasant light toning and occasional short fold separations (including the two of Los Angeles). Cloth case has light surface wear with a Harvard ex-library bookplate with deaccession stamp on an interior panel.
