"[9" Globe] Der Globus",

This nine-inch terrestrial desk globe is raised on a circular wooden base and supported by an ebonized baluster. The globe consists of twelve printed color gores and stands approximately 17" tall. The globe is undated, but geography dates it to circa 1910. The Philippines and the Sandwich Islands are colored to indicate United States' possessions. In Africa, Cape Colony, Transvaal, Orange and Natal are consolidated into the Union of South Africa (1910). Crete is still shown as independent, although it unified with Greece in 1908 (not internationally recognized until 1913 following the Balkan Wars). Major ocean currents are prominently shown along with major shipping lanes. A cartouche in the Pacific indicates the globe was produced by Felkl & Sohn in Prague, with Czech text throughout.

The globe gores are mostly clean with numerous light surface abrasions and some discoloration from the varnish which is more noticeable in the oceans. The globe has repaired cracks circling the bearing pin at top which is commonly seen, and there are minor chips and abrasions to the wooden base.
