A. County Map of Florida, by Samuel Augustus Mitchell, from Mitchell's New General Atlas..., dated 1879 (13.6 x 10.9"). This map features Mitchell's lovely grapevine border and a large, detailed inset plan of Mobile. There is good detail throughout, and county configuration is current to circa 1874. The railroads traverse the northern portion, extending only as far south as Volusia County, just north of Orlando. The Everglades and Big Cypress Swamp cover the entire southern portion. Although Miami is named on earlier editions of this map, here it is curiously absent. The map extends to the Dry Tortugas. Condition: (A)

B. Florida [on verso] Alabama, by Joseph Hutchins Colton, circa 1861 (14.8 x 11.9"). This map of Florida features good detail of roads, forts, villages, rivers, and swamps. The railroad extends west to Tallahassee and south to near Cedar Key. An inset, Plan of the Florida Keys, continues to show the Keys to Tortugas Islands. County configuration is current to 1861, with Baker, Polk, and Bradford counties all present. Condition: There are some edge tears, including one that enters 1.5" into the image at right, and a small light spot in the inset of the Keys. (B+)

C. Florida, by Charles G. Colby, from The Diamond Atlas, circa 1857 (5.1 x 6.6"). This small but intricately detailed map of Florida includes an inset the details the southern tip and the Keys. A number of towns, cities, forts, swamps, and more are named. The northern half of the state has been surveyed. County configuration is current until about 1853, with the addition of Sumter County. Condition: There is a minor abrasion at top left along the border and faint damp stains confined to the right blank margin. (A)
