A. A New Map of North America Shewing All the New Discoveries, by (Rev.) Jedidiah Morse, from American Gazetteer, dated 1797, black & white (9.1 x 7.6"). This small map of North America served as the frontispiece to Morse's American Gazetteer. Florida is divided into East and West Florida. Sir Francis Drake's Harbor is shown on the coast of present-day California which is labeled New Albion. A prominent River of the West flows into the Pacific at the Entrance of Juan de Fuca, and an elaborate, apocryphal Northwest Passage links Hudson Bay with Prince William Sound through a laborious system of rivers and lakes in Canada. B. A Map of North America from the Latest Authorities, by John Payne, from Payne's Geography, dated 1799, black & white (8.6 x 7.3"). This fascinating small map of the continent names several towns and cities, including New York, Boston, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Santa Fe, Iowa Town, Kansez, and San Diego. The area to the east of the Mississippi is labeled United States, with Louisiana immediately to the west of the river. Florida is split into East and West Florida. Texas is named, and the region west of the Rio Bravo is called New Mexico. Quivira, Teguayo, and New Albion appear in the American West. A River of the West terminates at the Entrance of Juan de Fuca. Numerous Indian tribes are identified throughout. Published by John Low and engraved by Scoles. Ref: McCorkle (18th C.
