This book lists the altitudes of approximately 18,000 sites in the US and 500 in Canada. Data sources are identified, primarily from railroads and early government surveys. Compiled by Henry Gannett, an American geographer was was described as the "Father of the Quadrangle," which is the basis for topographical maps in the United States. Gannett was one of the founding members of the National Geographic Society in 1883, serving as secretary, then treasurer, then vice-president, and finally as president in 1909. 325 pp; 43 pp. Hardbound in quarter leather with tips over marbled paper boards, gilt title and 5 raised bands on spine.

Condition: A

Contents are clean and bright with an occasional spot of foxing. Binding is tight, hinges are starting, and the covers and spine show light wear.
