This uncommon map of the Western Hemisphere was originally published in Johann Friedrich Schroter's Allgemeine Geschichte der Lander und Volker von America in 1752. The map highlights the rivers of the continents and includes some topographical detail. Californien appears as a large peninsula not quite connected to the vague and massive Pacific Northwest. It extends to show the Bering Strait and fragments of a large southern continent labeled Sudliche Unbekante Laender. A key beneath the map identifies 19 locations, including the Mississippi River, the Isthmus of Panama, and Tierra del Fuego. Additional German text names Indian tribes of the Americas.
