This impressive atlas contains 250 maps according to the table of contents (on around 100 sheets). The maps of U.S. states feature an unusual hybrid coloring where borders are shown in printed color and counties are shown in full hand-coloring. Cartographically, the U.S. maps emphasize the railroad network, with each state map containing a key identifying the various railroads. Each of the tipped in maps has a corresponding index describing the railroads, counties and towns. Many of the states are depicted on three double-page maps including California, Illinois, Kentucky, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington and West Virginia. In addition to the maps of states, the atlas contains numerous maps of international regions and 54 city plans, all enhanced with printed color. As with most of Cram's atlases, this example is not short on information, including 501 pp. of maps and related text. Hardbound in maroon cloth with title on front cover.
