Elegant map of the Iberian peninsula depicting the region in ancient times. The map was based on modern information from Clusius' six-sheet map of 1571 with ancient knowledge from Strabo, Appianus, Bongarius, Livius, Valerius Maximus and Suetonius. The region of Gibraltar and Cadiz are included in an inset. The map is beautifully engraved with a stippled sea, strapwork cartouches and calligraphy. This is the first state with Latin text on verso, published in 1595.
